This module will help you to discover your level of knowledge about music as an art form. There are four steps in this module, and each step is directly aligned with a level in the Victorian Music Curriculum. Each step has about 12 questions, and your answers will help determine if you have a solid understanding of the content, or if this is a step that you need to keep working on.
Remember, SoundSparks is a tool to help you identify your starting point in your music learning journey. It is not, in anyway, a judgement on your capacity to teach music. You have elected to commence the Music in Schools Program in order to develop yourself to teach music confidently to your students. We hope that this tool will make that journey clearer and more enjoyable.
As you complete the SoundSparks, it is very likely that you will reach the end of a step and reach a message that says, “We have found your current level”. This means that through your answers, we have identified which step you need to keep working on. Once we have found your step, you do not need to continue in this module. At this point, you can progress onto the next module (e.g. If you receive this message on Module 1 – Step 2, you can then progress onto Module 2 – Starter Skills)
Within a fortnight of completing SoundSparks, you will receive a personalised report with all of your results. This report is important to share with your mentor, to help identify the starting points for your development as a teacher of music education. We envisage that this report will be automated in the future, but for now we will be compiling your results individually.
